Types and features of lighting in a locksmith workshop

Locksmith workshops must be equipped with high-brightness lighting fixtures, as they are subject to work that requires good lighting. The activities of employees may be of different nature, so there are special requirements for coverage. In addition to their implementation, the workshop must follow certain rules.

Locksmith work is usually carried out in a room that has an increased level of danger due to the presence in its configuration of various equipment, power tools and other devices.

The verification of lighting compliance is carried out taking into account various norms and requirements, and the most important of them is safety. Visibility in the room should be such that the master could do his job well, without straining the eyes. Then, even with prolonged work, his eyes will not get tired.

Types and features of lighting in a locksmith workshop

Types of lighting in the workshop

There are three types of lighting.

Natural lighting

The advantage of this type is the lack of investment, but has several features that can affect the level of illumination. There should be many windows in the room to provide enough light, but in this case the heat retention is significantly reduced in winter. In addition to or instead of openings in the walls, holes in the roof are sometimes used.

Natural light may be sufficient during the day to ensure the level of illumination set by the norms. To control it, use the indicator KPO (coefficient of natural light), to calculate which compares the amount of light entering the room and the light on the street.

There are no clearly defined norms for such workshops in state standards. During the inspection, it was ordered to focus on the criteria established for vocational schools and colleges. For top light it is not less than 3%, for side light - 1.2%. Measure indicators near the wall in front of the window at the level of the work surface or at a distance of 1 meter from the floor.

KPO is influenced by the time of year, region, weather, trees and buildings in the immediate vicinity. This figure can have different values during the day.

Lamplight

This type is most often used because it is not affected by external conditions. It can be easily adjusted to suit your needs.

There are three options for artificial lighting:

  • Basic lighting. Most often, these are devices that are located on the ceiling in several rows. Their power and number are chosen based on the area of the workshop. This is done at the design stage, so it is not difficult to choose the equipment and install it.
  • Local lighting. This is an independent additional lighting, designed for those areas where the most difficult work is performed. To ensure this, install fixtures on the ceiling, low on the wall or on the desktop / workbench. When mounted on a table or machine, the light must be adjustable and directed from two sides, as workers can be both right-handed and left-handed.
  • Combined lighting. In this version, the main and local lighting are combined, which is the optimal solution. It must be calculated in advance. Local lighting is not used so that there is no contrast between the zones, and the locksmiths do not have to get used to the differences in brightness of light.

In the premises intended for metalwork, lighting devices with a high level of dust and moisture protection (IP65 and above) - dust and moisture-proof lamps are installed.

Combined lighting

This type is also called combined because it combines natural and artificial lighting. It is most often used in locksmith workshops.

What requirements must be met

Strict observance of norms is necessary in locksmith workshops. To understand what kind of lighting is allowed in the room, you need to know the criteria of formation.

The main criterion is lighting. It aims to provide the greatest possible comfort for the eyes of employees. This criterion can vary widely.

In addition to lighting, take into account the following characteristics:

  • Operational illumination is the average value at the work sites. Sharp changes in the lighting environment are not allowed, as it is harmful to the eyes.
  • Uniformity is a criterion that shows how different the illumination in a dark place is from the average. Proper placement of lighting eliminates the presence of poorly lit areas.
  • Uncomfortable fading - indicates areas of possible discomfort for vision, causing reflected or direct light. To eliminate this problem, the lamps are placed at certain angles, reflectors and diffusers are installed, the surfaces in the room are treated with materials with the necessary reflection coefficients.
  • Color index - indicates the naturalness of color reproduction under artificial lighting.
  • Ripple factor - notes the light differences and keeps them within set limits.

There are locksmith workshops that specialize in performing specialized work. Lighting requirements may differ here. All of them are specified in the technical documentation.

How to properly zone locksmith workshops

All workshop premises belong to the work area (except the warehouse). Lighting parameters are applied to it, which establish normative acts. Most often it is 300-400 lux.

In the areas of direct work, the lighting should be of better quality (up to 1000 lux). When installing luminaires to this area add at least 0.5 meters in each direction. Diversity should not be created on the periphery to avoid overexertion of vision. Therefore, in such areas the lighting is made at the level of 30% of the norm for the work area.

The most powerful lighting is installed in the field of machines. There are mounted machine lamps, the brightness of which can be adjusted according to the equipment. The lamps used must have the lowest degree of flicker to eliminate the stroboscopic effect that occurs when rotating the machine components.

Also in the requirements for lighting an important place is given to the color index. When choosing the color temperature of lighting fixtures should choose values close to natural.

The best solution is to install LED industrial luminaires with minimal flicker and high color index (more than 80%).

To ensure safe and high-quality lighting in the locksmith's shop, it should be equipped in accordance with regulations. General and local lighting should be installed and excessive flicker and sharp changes in brightness should be avoided.
